Nutrition

Good nutrition is a crucial part of health and well-being.

Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary defines NUTRITION as: "The sum total of the processes involved in the taking in and utilization of food substances by which growth, repair, and maintenance of activities in the body as a whole or any of its parts are accomplished."

What's for Breakfast
What's Up With Antacids?

Most of us grew up with common-sense nutritional advice, such as "eat your vegetables!" and "everything in moderation". Today, we face a succession of new diet crazes, offering conflicting advice. We're told to eat minimal fat (Dean Ornish), high protein/high fat (original Atkins), low carb/high protein/low fat (Sugarbusters), Macrobiotics, Raw Food, megadose vitamins, no vitamins...the list goes on and on.

Where is the science behind nutritional advice? What truly makes sense? And what kind of eating program can we live with -- happily?

This portion of the website is devoted to bringing you sensible, accurate nutritional advice that doesn't require a guidebook or printout of each food's nutritional components, to help you make smart choices.

Simple, no-nonsense help is in The KISS of Nutrition.  You'll find more detailed information in More on Nutrition, What's Good For Breakfast, and other pages in this section.
